Summer looks like Mr. Cary Grant

With the Summer comes the heat, sun-shine and men should opt to lighter colours. Below pictures of Mr. Grant depicts him in a formal Summer attire and a very casual attire. The pictures shows that a gent can still be elegant and timeless even when its hot.

Cary Grant - impeccable as always

Mr. Cary Grant looking very elegant, stylish and so classical not to mention impeccably dressed as always. Mr. Grant below depicted wearing a navy flannel chalk stripped double breasted suit, paired with a tie and a pocket square. It is season for warmer suiting cloth, so flannel is appropriate for the season to keep a gent warm. Shoes are of suede. Wonder for whom is he carrying the glass of milk? A lady perhaps..hmm will never know. An update: a reader made me aware that the photo is from a the movie "Suspicion" and the milk is for Joan Fontaine. Now we have that in place. (thanks)

Crombie Overcoats for a gent

The Crombie mills has been producing luxury cloth since 1805. Crombie's cloth was commended by Queen Victoria and Napoleon III, Crombie's coats were favoured and welcomed by the Russian imperial court. It is said that when USSR party secretary Mr Gorbatsjov visited the UK in the eighties, he was wearing a coat made by Crombie. I can not verify that. The Duke of York, The Duke of Windsor, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, Sir Winston Churchill and President John F. Kennedy were all Crombie wearers. 

There was a time not so long ago when the more dapper "Skinhead" subculture favoured Crombie as the garment of choice. Hmmm, stylish guys.

I sampled the below coats as they are readily available from Crombie and they look very good, timeless and stylish for any gent.

The Duke of York later King George VI, visiting the Crombie mills in 1932, dressed in a double breasted Crombie King overcoat made especially for him, bowler and well polished black oxfords.

Sir Churchill in a Herringbone Crombie coat, three piece suit, the iconic bow tie and a top hat. Not to forget the cigar.

The Homborg Hat

Two days ago I was in a second hand shop looking for a Homborg hat, to my dismay did find at least three hats but none in my size. For nearly a year I have been playing with the thought of acquiring a Homborg hat, which I consider a very formal, classic, stylish and elegant and a very useful accessory to accompany a well dressed gent during the Winter period.


I know some will say "why not get a baseball cap"? Pardon my French, the baseball cap is what everyone wears and it is meant for sporting and not to pair with stylish, elegant, classic clothing. Same as trainers belong to the gym. 


I mourn and lament to the long gone era when men wore hats like the Homborg and held walking sticks or umbrellas.
