GJ Cleverley shoes - for a Japanese client

I am starting this week with some very elegant shoes made for a Japanese gent by GJ Cleverley of London. At the same time closing the passing week's  theme on "Japanese bespoke artisans".
The  photos are sourced from The Cobblers Web Style, who owns a great number of bespoke shoes from bespoke shoemakers around the Globe.
The sampled shoes are a "The De Rede" tassel loafer in alligator, a brown and white full brogue spectator and a calf and grained leather saddle shoe. Stunning examples of true shoe artisanship.

All of the depicted shoes are fine examples of well balanced art work, elegant and classic shoes, perhaps for a discerning few, but they are...... inspirational for the Summer and Spring. Hope the week starts with some inspirations and a bit of day dreaming about these fine examples. Why not?  Enjoy.

G.J. Cleverley - De Rede (tassel loafer)

For the day I have sampled a beautiful loafer made by the well known English bespoke boot and shoemaker house, GJ Cleverley and it is part of their Anthony Cleverley range offerings. The loafer is named De Rede in honour of Baron De Rede a former client of Cleverley's. It's a loafer with a great deal details, the bow and tassel makes this loafer very unique.

The first pictures of the De Rede loafer in pigskin made for Mr. Will Boehlke (A Suitable Wardrobe). I like the rendition of the De Rede loafer in pigskin hide, as the grain texture and the colouring of the hide brings the little artistic details of this loafer out to the world, which otherwise would be taken for granted. Note that Mr. Boehlke opted for a more round toe than the squared (suede version) and the loafer gets a new dimension of beauty. Now I have to mention that Mr. Boehlke is a man/gent obsessed with details, no wonder the pairing of this loafer with the grey socks and trousers makes it so elegant to the viewer and ...... I wish to own a pair. Well done Mr. Boehlke. Thanks for your blog, a source of inspiration and of learning.

The GJ Cleverley Shoes - The best shoe maker in London

"There's two things in life you should spend money on: your bed and your shoes, because if you're not in one, you're in the other." Said Mr. Glasgow Sr. below
The Legend himself below,  Mr. George Cleverley, who first set up his own shop on a street round the corner in 1958 - having already established his name during his years at nearby shoe-maker Tuczek, where he'd developed the flatter-toed Cleverley style that Nureyev, Churchill and Bogart soon made famous.

The Cleverley chiselled square toe, a trademark/dna of the Cleverley house.
Below is GJ Cleverley bespoke shoes for a Japanese client: Note the square & chiselled toe of the shoes. Outstanding. A true fingerprint/dna for the GJ Cleverley house.

The Japanese gent who owns these shoes has something like 20+ pairs of bespoke shoes from GJ Cleverley, some creations from WS Forster & Sons and other bespoke shoe makers around the world. A true collector and a very sartorial Shoe AristoCat.

The GJ Cleverley house, has four lines of production:
1) Bespoke, 2) Semi Bespoke, 3) Anthony Cleverley Line and lastly 4) Ready To Wear Line.

The Ready To Wear Line is based on the Crockett & Jones 337 Last and 348.

Above is a punched cap toe based on the 348 last. A beautiful shoe.

I prefer the RTW line from the 337 Last. My own pair of side gusset in black below.
GJ Cleverley's shoes are extremely light, very slim in construction and  comfortable from the first day of wear.

For the money spent on the RTW, you get a very good product. Gents, if reading this, and building a shoe wardrobe that is good, elegant, stylish, go for them.

RTW shoes from Cleverley come with shoe trees and very reasonably priced.
They are my favourite foot wear for special days or evenings. I am still adding to the collection.

Note the spit shine. Below shoe pictures are mine.
