Marquess aka Shoji Kawaguchi's full brogue and a monk

For the day I have sampled two creations from Master Shoji Kawaguchi aka "Marquess". The sampled are a full brogue Oxford laced shoe and a a single monk.
However the full brogue is very distinctive from the usual full brogue. Note that the vamp part is not brogued as expected but rather stitched, which is is unusual, but looks great and separates this full brogue from the rest. I will not say a word on the monks, both shoes have nice colour and are well polished. Hmm...bespoke....bespoke....

  1. Ok I'll say something about the monks then. Well polished, clean, elegant ... But... I feel that if you are going to go with an ox blood or maroon or whatever color you call this, you must break it up a bit. Have a cap toe, a wing SOMETHING. Other than a whole cut. Just draws the eyes down for the wrong reason. Tough to match these shoes up properly, though it can be done with some inky denim or a medium gray suit, they just don't sing to me like the brogues do.. Which are fantastic.. But it is nice to see a variety of shoes on these blogs.. They can't all be what I like or the next person likes. Also, as I look, a nice chisel toe would do wonders for the monks too... Thanks SA

  2. Hi Brad,

Thanks for the comment. I have a pair of GJ Cleverley in oxblood (burgundy or maroon), the colour which I prefer in Oxfords with brogueing and cap toe as the colour complements the design. However that is my personal choice. I think the monk in this rendition and colour is also an amzing shoe, as nothing get broken in the overall look of the design and colour. The first thing that made me take note of the monk was the oxblood colour and I think it is very unique. Anyway, all of us have our preferences.

    Have a pleasant day.

    Best of regards
